Woodcarver - Sunshine Coast, BC

Steve was born in Montreal, Canada in 1951 and moved to the West Coast of British Columbia permanently in 1979 after traveling in India, Europe and Hawaii for several years. It was after his move to the West Coast that he started carving in wood.

Steve carves decorative pieces but his preference is to incorporate art into functional pieces that can be appreciated for their beauty at the same time. Each piece evolves in its own way.

"Even though I have an idea when I start carving, each piece takes on a life of its own. The finished idea comes out of the wood itself, especially when I do masks.”

Steve undertakes commissioned work, and in his own words, “I can carve just about anything.” His favorite wood is yellow cedar, but he works with other soft woods as well.

Steve lives in a beautiful post and beam home in Roberts Creek, British Columbia which he designed and built along with his partner Lynn. It is full of beautiful carvings and wood designs that are functional and beautiful at the same time.
